Canada offers asylum to certain people on its territory who fear persecution or would be in danger if they had to return to their country. Among the dangers they may face are torture, a threat to their life, or the risk of cruel and unusual treatment or punishment. If you believe you would face such danger upon returning to your country of origin or the country where you currently live, you may have the right to seek protection in Canada as a refugee.
